Dear MVTA Members,

We want to catch up on some news, but first we want to invite you to an open meeting this evening with our attorney, Travis Martz.  Many have had questions about the MVA fines for Title Service Agents, and the laws that allow this.  We would like to address this topic and help you avoid fines.  Please join us!

In the June meeting with MVA Executive Staff, the Board of Directors discussed the following:

  1. MVA Portal Letters –  The board brought it to the MVA’s attention that Case Closed letters were being generated without any understanding that members were even being audited.  In addition, there is no way to sort or organize them! (The board made a request for an SQR to correct this problem almost a year ago).  While it is in the top 10 list for MVA programmers, it won’t happen until higher priority items are completed. UPDATE – Effective June 11th, Case Closed letters are no longer being automatically generated when an ERT audit case is closed, and an initial letter was not previously issued for the case.  This will decrease the amount of letters you receive in your business portal.  Hooray!
  2. Vintage Plates – Can they be ordered by title agents or are they only going to be issued at MVA?  UPDATE – On or about October 1st, Vintage plates can be ordered via ERT systems (once the systems are updated), but they will be centrally issued by the MVA.
  3. “Ready for Pickup” Notifications (that are actually not ready for pickup!) – MVA employees working from home can cause the pickup notification to be sent before inventory is ready because staff must be present in the office before stock can be issued.  MVA executives say they were not aware that this was an ongoing issue, and they are looking at correcting this process.
  4. eTitles – How do title agents fit into the process?  Per Chrissy Nizer, the TSA role in eTitling will not be diminished and there is a lot to figure out since not all states will be electronic.  Those who are eligible to process eTitles will be limited, with a very small process before widespread adoption.  The MVA is working with AAMVA on proof of concept, and Chrissy mentioned that the MyMVA account will require a higher level of authentication created durring a branch appointment.  MVA is not limiting this to just the portal and MVTA will provide updates as we learn more and work with MVA and ERT vendors.
  5. Historic Tag Changes – the board will publish a separate understanding of the changes that will be effective July 1st, 2025..
  6. Fees from the 2025 Legislative Session – Anthony put together a spreadsheet to help members navigate the new fees.  Please log in to the member portal at MVTA.org under the Resources tab. This sheet was created in the spirit of helping members, and the official legislative bulletin from MVA takes precedence.  Please let us know if you note any changes or updates, and the historic tags still need to be fully clarified.

Reminders:

The MVA is closed on Thursday June 19th for Juneteenth.  Please plan accordingly.

The MVA warehouse will be closed for annual inventory from June 23 – 27, 2025. During this time the warehouse will be closed but will reopen on June 30th.  Inventory must be ordered by today, June 18th, but there is no guarantee it will be delivered before the cutoff date.  See bulletin for full details.

Have a great day, and reach out to us anytime!  HelpDesk@mvta.org
